The About Page is a typical feature found on most online portfolios. Usually it serves to allow a writer to boast about his qualifications while also giving visitors a feel for his personal writing style. However, I thought it would be more interesting to provide information not found on my resume or writing samples, so I'll start instead with some goals.
When I began my writing career, I had only one: I wanted to write everything. Every format, genre and platform, any audience. I believe that style is constructed, not inherent, and qualities such as tone, voice and mood are conscious choices. Our family e-mails sound different from our office reports, do they not? And our Facebook updates often vary in tone from those on LinkedIn. We each communicate in our own way, but we choose our words to fit our purpose; style revolves around intent.
I've kept this idea in mind for the past seven years as I've continued my writing career, and thus far, I've been very fortunate to be able to work on such a diverse range of projects. In traditional publishing, I've written hundreds of print and online articles, book updates and newsletters. I've also written quite a few product writeups and edited marketing copy for small businesses. Online, I've written material for iOS apps, social media and corporate websites. Some of my more eclectic projects would include ghostwritten letters, scripts for national conferences, essays, poems and short fiction.
My experience has broadened, but my goal is still the same.
Please take a look at my portfolio to get an idea of the kind of work I can do. And feel free to contact me about a project; I'd be happy to discuss how I could be of help.
Let's keep going through.
